Rationale
Reading is the first process students started learning in Education. This process begins with using eyes to look at the text and using the brain to change it to words. According to Ur (2007), “Reading is the process of looking at a series of written symbols and getting meaning from them” (p. 132). Furthermore, Harmer (1998) comments that ”reading text also provide opportunities to studylanguage: vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and the way we construct sentences, paragraphs and text”(p. 68). In my action research, I will use different types to collect my data information, for example, Observation, Interviewing, and Reflection. The first type of data collection is observation. Observations guide the students, teachers and school to the professional growth in the future. Frankly, I prefer using observation, instead performance evaluations because I can record the student's action and relevant comments. So, I will solve the problem correctly by using different strategies to improve their reading skills. The second type of data collection is interviewing. This kind of data can help me to understand the students thinking through asking different teachers at the school to sort out several new strategies that be used with them, especially with moderate abilities and special need students because they need more help and support. According to Meggitt (2006), " Children have special educational needs if they have a learning difficulty they require extra support" (p. 141). The last type of data collection I will use in my action research is a reflection. Meditation can help me to create new activities, planning and to improve the reading skills by using different methods.
Strategies
I will talk about the data collection tools I'm going to use for my action research.
Observations
I will observe student’s actions, their participation and I will record each signal point will happen in the classroom, and then I will discuss all issues, my comments and my questions with my mentor to learn a new methods and strategies to solve the problems with her answers and her experiences.
Interviewing
I will collect my data by asking six teachers at the school about how we can improve reading, skills. The purpose of the research interview is to look for different comments, experiences, and different recommendations.
Reflections
Reflection is the last step I will do it after observation and interviewing to understand everything and to build new knowledge, new strategies and technique that will help me in the future to face any problem through reading my valuable comments.
Target/Focus:
To be able to use data collection tools in support of action research. (Improve reading skills in primary school).
