Learning Outcomes (refer to ADEC document)
Resources
Learning Outcome: (ADEC)
Students will be able to…
4MDM1
measure, record and compare lengths using standard units (mm, cm, m)
Opening
-smart board - powerpoint
-ruler- m&ms – pins
Activity 1
Students will measure the lengths of each other and note down the numbers on the paper
Activity 2
Worksheet where the students will cut their paper rulers and measure the different lengths of the warms.
Activity 3
Measurements of pencil case and stationary tools.
Opening: Time: 10-15
(consider prior learning, motivation, overview and the presentation of the learning outcome)
-
I will start with a small power point to introduce the measurement units to the students that they know when to use it.
-
I will divide the class into three groups, and have three tables with activities. The groups will circulate around the class.
Practice Activities (use groupings as required) Time:30 m
Describe the activities and what the students will be doing. Consider differentiated activities.
Activity 1
the activity on the first table will be that the girls will measure each others height, using meter tapes.
Activity 2
The activity on the second table will be worksheets, where the groups will have to cut their paper rulers and use them to measure the lengths of the warms.
Activity 3
This table will have some of the students pencil cases and some items, and the students of the group will use rulers to measure and note down the lengths of the items.
Activity 4
Closing/ Conclusion:
Time: ______________________
Consider a review of what the students did during the practice activities and ensure that all students are assessed for learning.
The Process of the Lesson
What children will do
What teacher will do
Introduction
The students will interact with the powerpoint questions and presentation.
The teacher will explain the lesson through using the powerpoint, practical examples and interactive questions.
This opening is motivative as I noticed powerpoints attract the students attention.
Activity 1
The students will learn the use of meters and meter tapes through measuring eachothers heights.
The teacher will explain how to use, read and note down the numbers.
Transitions
The students will move from one table to another.
The teacher will count from one to 10 slowly until the groups move and settle down
Activity 3
The students will measure the lengths of some items like the pencil case.
the teacher will pass around to guide the process.
Conclusion
One girl from each group will come to the board to answer the question
The teacher will do an online game and ask a girl from each group to come to the board and answser a question
Assessment Strategies
The concluding activity will help me assest how well the students understood the lesson.
Recommendations / future personal targets / areas of focus
My targets for next week
My next target is to improve the class’s overall level and to help the students become more active and involved, and push them to use their prior knowledge in classtime.
45 minutes 24 Grade 4
Supporting activities based on grouping considerations ( See ADEC document)
Comments
General Comments
I will try the new approach where the students circulate around the tables of the activities.
